The archipelago of Cape Verde is a group of 10 islands and 8 islets in the Atlantic Ocean, nearly 400 miles west of Senegal. Each island has its own character, with some being volcanic and mountainous and others flat and sandy. The northern group of islands include Santo Antao, Santa Lucia, Sao Vicente and San Nicolao. To the west are the sandy islands of Boa Vista and Sal and to the south with its stunning abundance of flora is Brava, the volcanic cone shaped island of Fogo, the beautiful white sandy beaches of Maio and the largest island in the group that of Santiago with its white sandy coves and mountainous interior. The capital of the archipelago is Praia which is on Santiago.

First discovered in 1460 by Antonio Da Noli, a Genoa merchant, working as a Portuguese explorer, Cape Verde is situated between 4 continents, Africa, Europe, North America and South America, only 3 hours flight from Brazil, 4 hours from mainland Europe and less than 6 hours from the UK it is no lie to say that this amazing group of islands has something to offer everyone and every taste.

The climate on the islands is varied with a significant contrast between the mountainous regions which are cooler and wetter, to the warm, dry climate on the coast, but on the whole it is classed as dry tropical with an average temperature of around 25C and water temperatures between 22C and 27C. Cape Verde has only 2 seasons, a dry season between November and July with around 10 to 12 hours of sunshine a day and a comparatively moderate humid season between August and October with daily sunshine averages of 6 to 7 hours.

Cape Verde is an exciting new investment prospect for the off-shore property investor and an ideal place to start if you are thinking of climbing up the property ladder. The best way to describe the situation is to compare it to the Canary Islands twenty years ago but the government has taken heed of the lessons learned from its neighbours and already there is a strict infrastructure in place so that the problems that occurred in the Canary Islands with the influx of tourists does not occur here. The development of these islands is beginning to gather pace and it therefore offers investors a great opportunity.
